Design code consultation – Wychavon Central and North

Wychavon is working with Create Streets to come up with a design code for the district. This is a chance for you to influence how your town, village or street is developed.

Design codes will become an important part of the planning system in the future. They will set out to developers, housebuilders and architects what is required, in detail, from their proposed plans before they are even submitted, guaranteeing standards are upheld and removing the uncertainty which can lead to delays in the planning process.

The codes can include everything from the type of material that can be used to whether buildings should avoid being north-facing so it’s easier to install solar panels on them.

Having a design code will not replace the need for planning permission or remove the rights of residents to object or comment on individual planning applications. But by requiring developers to build to the design code, it means planners can ensure new development is better suited to towns and villages and is good quality, sustainable and helps communities flourish.

Input from residents is critical to the process of producing the code and consultations for the Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich Spa areas are now live. The Evesham South consultation took place in the autumn of 2022.

Using the links below, you can visit the Create Streets interactive map where you can comment on different buildings and aspects of current design in your area, as well as make your own suggestions about good design you would like to see more of in the future.

The deadline to have your say is 1 February 2023. If you are unsure which area you fit in then click on the links and the areas covered by that consultation will be shaded in red on the map.

Take the Wychavon Central (Evesham, Pershore and surrounding areas) design code consultation.

Take the Wychavon North (Droitwich Spa and surrounding areas) design code consultation.

Trees call to action fund (TCAF)

The Trees Call to Action Fund (TCAF) is an exciting new project that will enable communities and landowners to access funds for tree planting and hedge planting. The project team will be visiting parishes to discuss your planting opportunities and how to apply for grants for planting new green spaces that can benefit the environment, reconnect people with nature, and support wildlife.

The government has created a target to treble tree planting rates in England by 2025 as a crucial part of meeting the UK’s net-zero targets. This has led to the creation of projects like TCAF. Each tree that we will plant can help to remove carbon from the air, reduce air pollution, reduce water pollution, reduce the impact of flooding, provide shade for people and animals, improve soil health, and more. The project is funded by a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund[1] and will be delivered by staff from four partner organisations: the Heart of England Forest, Stratford-upon-Avon District Council, Warwick District Council, and Wychavon District Council.

Project Delivery Officers will be communicating with local communities and landowners to discuss what options are available to you and how you can access the grants. Each new green space that is planted is a step forwards in our important national responsibility to reduce our carbon emissions, help the recovery of the UK’s native biodiversity, and connect people to green spaces.

If you are interested in funding for your own land or the local area, look out for future communications about TCAF, email Liz.Etheridge@wychavon.gov.uk, or contact 07843 813944.

Wychavon’s Proclamation

Following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, you are invited to attend a short ceremony to proclaim the new King.

This will be held on Sunday, 11 September at 5pm, to the side of the War Memorial, Sedgeberrow.

The dress code for the event is as follows:

  • Morning dress or dark suit /black tie
  • Uniform/medals with armband
  • Females – mourning rosette, hats optional

The ceremony follows the chain of events in order, immediately following Wychavon’s Proclamation.

Next Parish Council Meeting – postponed

Following the death of HM Queen Elizabeth, as the country moves into a period of mourning, the meeting of 14th September will be cancelled. An alternative date will be arranged and advertised via the website.

The Sedgeberrow Neighbourhood Development Plan progresses to the next stage of the NDP process… Regulation 16 consultation commences.

Under Regulation 15 of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012, Sedgeberrow Parish Council submitted its Neighbourhood Plan to Wychavon District Council on 7th June 2022. In accordance with Regulation 16, a public consultation has commenced and runs from Monday18th July to Monday 5th September 2022, during which interested parties were invited to make comments on the submitted Sedgeberrow Neighbourhood Plan to Wychavon District Council.

Sedgeberrow Parish Council undertook consultation on an earlier draft of their Neighbourhood Plan, in accordance with Regulation 14 of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012, which commenced midnight on Friday 17th September 2021 and ended midnight Saturday 30th October 2021.  Comments received during the consultation period helped inform changes made to the document submitted to Wychavon District Council. The Neighbourhood Plan proposes a number of policies on future housing development, important Local Green Spaces, and flood risk.

Collating responses to the Regulation 16 consultation is the responsibility of Wychavon District Council. The responses received will be passed on to an independent examiner, who will assess them, and the Neighbourhood Plan documents to determine whether the Neighbourhood Plan meets the relevant legislation and should proceed to a Referendum.
